Fillers

WHAT ARE FILLERS?
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that can be injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Fillers can be used around the eyes, cheeks, mouth, and jawline. Lip fillers are administered directly into the lip tissue.

Fillers can help plump lips, fill hollow cheeks, repair various facial imperfections, improve scars, and elevate deep folds. The result is a smoother, more youthful appearance with minimal “downtime” and maximum safety. Fillers are very popular with both men and women and can be a cost-effective way to look younger without surgery.

HOW DO FILLERS WORK?
As we age, we lose collagen and elastin, both of which help us look youthful. Fillers restore that lost volume to the face, smoothing deep lines and folds. There are three types of fillers that we carry here at Hull Aesthetics. They are Hyaluronic Acid, Calcium hydroxylapatite, and Poly-L-lactic Acid fillers.

Many fillers we have are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based. HA is a naturally occurring substance that is found in our skin, helping keep it hydrated and plump. Our Juvederm family of fillers, our Restylane products, and Belotero are HA based. The effects of these fillers are seen immediately.

Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is another naturally occurring substance in our body, mainly found in our bones. This substance, when mixed with a gel, forms a thicker filler than an HA base. Typically, CaHA fillers last longer and help stimulate natural collagen production. A CaHA filler we offer is Radiesse, which is clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients.

Finally, the last type of filler we offer is a Poly-L-lactic Acid fillers. These fillers are classified as collagen stimulators. They smooth fine lines by helping your skin rebuild natural collagen. Sculptra Aesthetic is an example of this type of filler and the results can last more than two years.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY APPOINTMENT?
Our filler journeys begin with a consultation. During that time, your provider will evaluate your areas of concern and review your medical history. (Always fully disclose your medical history. While the risk from fillers is minimal, certain medications, allergies, or conditions can effect your results). Together, you and your provider will develop a treatment plan which will work with your budget and your skin concerns. This plan will guide you through the process of fillers and can be adjusted as your needs change.

Before the treatment, the area will be cleaned. While many fillers contain lidocaine, you may opt for a topical anesthetic, an ice pack, or Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide. Once you are comfortable, your provider will begin injecting the product strategically beneath the skin. After treatment, some patients experience mild bruising and swelling, but these effects are temporary and should subside within days.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
As we mentioned above in “HOW DO FILLERS WORK?”, the effectiveness of a filler is based on it’s composition. However, other factors such as the area of treatment and the patient help determine length. Generally, the thicker a product is and the more deeply it is injected, the longer it tends to last. To maintain your maximum results, follow the treatment plan your provider designed with you.
