Laser Hair Reduction

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REDUCTION?
Unwanted hair growth may appear on many areas of the body including the upper lip, sideburns, chin, ears, chest, back, armpits (axillae), legs, fingers, feet, or toes and is annoying for both men and women. Lasers help eliminate unwanted hair.

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REDUCTION WORK?
The High Speed LightSheer® DUET™ for permanent hair reduction offers exciting speed and amazing comfort. The LightSheer® DUET™ allows your provider to truly customize treatment for your hair type, skin type, and lifestyle.

The LightSheer® DUET™ offers two handpiece choices depending on your needs. The gold standard LightSheer® ET handpiece with ChillTip cooling for smaller areas and the LightSheer® High Speed handpiece uses breakthrough vacuum assisted technology in combination with diode laser light to allow rapid and comfortable treatment of large areas.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY APPOINTMENT?
At Hull Aesthetics, we offer Laser Hair Reduction appointments in 15-minute increments. Depending on the part of your body you would like to treat, your appointment time may be longer. For the procedure to be effective, there must be some contrast between the hair color and the skin color. Ideally, the hair needs to have pigment. If you are unsure about treatment, schedule a complimentary consult to discuss your needs with one of our providers.

During your appointment, your provider will use the LightSheer® DUET™ to help reduce unwanted hair. Some people find the procedure uncomfortable and compare it to being snapped with a rubber band. To minimize discomfort, please arrive for your appointment with the treated area clean and shaven. You may also take a mild pain reliever before your appointment or avoid alcohol the night before treatment.

In addition, please avoid tanning, self-tanning lotion, waxing, tweezing, makeup, or deodorant in the treated area. Be aware that some medications or supplements increase sensitivity to treatments. Consult your physician if you take medications before starting laser hair reduction. Notify your provider of any new medications before treatment. If you have a history of cold sores or herpes, please notify your provider. An anti-viral prescription may be required prior to treatment. If you are unsure about Laser Hair Reduction, we also offer waxing to our patients.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
Laser Hair Reduction requires multiple treatments and will require maintenance. This is because the laser works best when hairs are in an early growth stage, and all the hairs are not in this growth phase at the same time. Hair in the treated area may take up to 2 weeks to fall out.

After treatment, avoid sun exposure for 7-10 days and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Redness and and perifollicular edema (looks like a rash or bug bites) are common and resolve with time.
